At Local Roots January 2-5

I'm still enjoying a partial vacation this week -- all this snow makes me want to curl up with a blanket, a book, and a pot of tea!  But I hope to have a little more at Local Roots this week.  Here's the plan so far:

There's still a few spaces left for my biscuits and scones class at Today's Kitchen Store on January 12, and I'm lining up more classes for spring.

And I'm especially excited that Brian Schlatter of Canal Junction Farmstead Cheese will join me, sampling some of his wonderful and award-winning artisan cheeses.

At Local Roots December 12-17

Christmas is coming, and this Saturday brings another holiday Artisan Day to Local Roots! Come to the market to find a beautiful and practical selection of locally-crafted gifts from jewelry and clothing to wooden bowls, pottery mugs and dishes, and much, MUCH more!

In addition, Marilou Suszko, author of the new cookbook The Locavore's Kitchen, will be on hand to sign books. Her new book is my new go-to cookbook for seasonal produce ideas -- it is great!

Fall is here! This is definitely my kind of baking weather. And since the days are getting cooler, it's time for me to switch up the usual bread repertoire just a little bit.

--Look for a pear cake of some sort -- haven't decided yet what I will make -- on Tuesday, featuring pears from Moreland Fruit Farms.

--Later in the week, almond croissants will return, so get to the market early for the freshest, flakiest croissants in town!

On Saturday, Local Roots welcomes the OEFFA Farm Tour -- sharing our model for local foods with the state!

Starting next Monday, Local Roots Market and Cafe will be open SIX days a week! And yes, I plan to be baking and supplying both market and cafe each of those days.

--Spicy pac choi is back! with homegrown pac choi and garlic, Adonai Acres onion, and a spicy Asian-style peanut sauce with natural peanut butter from Sherry's Classic Cuisine.

In addition, you'll find fresh almond croissants in the bakery case each day (until the dough runs out)! Sweet, but not too cloying, these flaky pastries feature local butter, milk, eggs, and a touch of maple sugar. SO good!

Croissants Coming to Woo's Brews!

Coming later this morning to Woo's Brews Coffee House and Cafe:


--Almond croissants, the perennial favorite!


--Chocolate croissants, back again to tempt your palate. (And I think I'm getting a little better with the chocolate drizzle each time I make these!)

This Week at Woo's Brews


Looks like the almond croissants are quite the hit at Woo's Brews Cafe and Coffee House! Thanks, everyone!

This week, you'll get fresh almond croissants as well as a handful of chocolate croissants. Same buttery, flaky dough but with a bar of quality semisweet chocolate in the middle and a drizzle of bittersweet chocolate on top.

If you like the new croissants, tell Leigh Ann and her crew -- and we'll see about getting you more in future (certainly for the upcoming Chocolate Daze!)!
