At Local Roots September 26-October 1

Fall is here! This is definitely my kind of baking weather. And since the days are getting cooler, it's time for me to switch up the usual bread repertoire just a little bit.

Here's what you'll find on my shelves at Local Roots Market this week:

--Artisan wheat bread
--Basil pesto flatbread
--Cheese crackers (pepper jack)
--Cheese-herb artisan bread: gouda-sage, Miami-parsley
--Cinnamon-pecan bread
--Garlic-herb bread
--Garlic pesto flatbread
--Honey spelt oat bread
--Light rye bread
--Maple oatmeal bread
--Pain aux noix
--Pizza crusts
--Pumpernickel bread
--Sandwich buns
--Savory apple flatbread
--Sesame thins
--Spelt bread
--Tea rings and pecan rings
--Whole wheat pita
--Whole wheat sandwich bread
--Zaatar flatbread

In the bakery case, you'll find three treats:

--The cheese rolls for the week will again have a melty core of Heritage Grass Farm Swiss cheese -- just the perfect side for a bowl of soup from the Local Roots Cafe!

--Look for a pear cake of some sort -- haven't decided yet what I will make -- on Tuesday, featuring pears from Moreland Fruit Farms.

--Later in the week, almond croissants will return, so get to the market early for the freshest, flakiest croissants in town!

On Saturday, Local Roots welcomes the OEFFA Farm Tour -- sharing our model for local foods with the state!

At Local Roots September 12-17

It's county fair week, time to celebrate our local agricultural traditions (and eat greasy food). But Local Roots Market and Cafe will be open through the week, and you'll still be able to stop and get groceries on your way back from the fair.

Here's what you'll find on my shelves at Local Roots Market this week:

--Artisan wheat bread
--Basil pesto flatbread
--Cheese crackers (cheddar and pepper jack)
--Cheese-herb artisan bread: cheddar-basil, cheddar-dill, chèvre-rosemary, feta-oregano, gouda-sage
--Cinnamon-pecan bread
--Garlic-herb bread
--Garlic pesto flatbread
--Honey spelt oat bread
--Jalapeno-cheddar bread
--Light rye bread
--Maple oatmeal bread
--Pain aux noix
--Pizza crusts
--Sandwich buns
--Savory apple flatbread
--Sesame thins
--Spelt bread
--Tea rings and pecan rings
--Whole wheat pita
--NEW! Whole wheat sandwich bread
--Zaatar flatbread

I'll plan to have more cheese rolls in the bakery case starting Tuesday, but you'll also find the return of the lemon herb-almond cake today, with fresh lemon basil from Karen's Garden Delights, lemon verbena syrup from Simple Products, and whole wheat pastry flour from Stutzman Farms.

And since fall is coming -- meaning that it's almost time to bring out the fall and winter line of herbal tea blends -- this would be the perfect time to grab the last of the summer herbal teas!

Have a great week, and enjoy the fair!
